Tweeting is it hype and useless information or are there real business benefits?

So there are probably that many different reasons why people would use twitter. However, just in case it may be useful, I can tell you how I use Twitter.

1 in a personal context

2 in a  business context

That means I have two Twitter accounts. Just like many people and I use both accounts very differently. I use my personal account to send messages to my friends (yes I still have a few).  However I use my business Twitter account much differently.

When it comes to business I am interested in measurable results. I calculate most of my tweets and the impact they may have on my rankings and links with the search engines. I tend to promote links to new websites that we launch for customers or activities or news stories that may interest my business audience.

I have linked via Twitter to this blog and pointed then on to new customers websites that previously had no exposure on the Internet.

I always use a signature at the end of each blog or news story that uses my keywords and phrases with hyperlinks to my own website.

Does it work? I believe it does. And since I started tweeting and linking to relevent sites my rankings with the search engines have improved dramatically. So I have a few useful tips if you are going to tweet for business or in an attempt to point traffic to the direction of your website.

1 Create a Blog or news story with hyperlinks to your site and a relevent signature containing information relevent to your business.

2 Dont spam! Everyone hates (or dislikes immensely) spammers. If you do not have relevent information.. wait until you do.

3  Think about how your products and services help your customers or solve their problems

4 Mention your products and services (and some keywords and phrases)  in your tweets and links back to your blog stories or website.

5 Post often and post regularly both blogs then tweets to the same information.

6 Be enthusiastic its contagious!

I believe that Twitter is fantastic and effective tool to assist in growing your business online. The benefits you will see if you use it effectively are an increase in traffic to your website or blog and an increase in awareness of your brand. It is very well worth the effort in my opinion.
