Looking at it.. pristine… fast.. so different although I missed the durability of the Nokia, and the features and nice looks on the many Sony Ericsson devices I had used previously.  But the New Iphone was excellent… I looked at one of my colleagues.. and I said out loud…

My colleague suggested we look at the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus and we did…

In my humble opinion… I believe that Samsung and Google may have cracked it with this one…

Time of course will reveal all… But look at the number of views for the video above… There is quite a lot of interest in this device…

I dont believe that it is game over for the iphone.. but Apple need to do something to up the ante and very very fast!!!

Twitter? Thumbs Up - Glenovation

So there are probably that many different reasons why people would use twitter. However, just in case it may be useful, I can tell you how I use Twitter.

1 in a personal context

2 in a  business context

That means I have two Twitter accounts. Just like many people and I use both accounts very differently. I use my personal account to send messages to my friends (yes I still have a few).  However I use my business Twitter account much differently.

When it comes to business I am interested in measurable results. I calculate most of my tweets and the impact they may have on my rankings and links with the search engines. I tend to promote links to new websites that we launch for customers or activities or news stories that may interest my business audience.

I have linked via Twitter to this blog and pointed then on to new customers websites that previously had no exposure on the Internet.

I always use a signature at the end of each blog or news story that uses my keywords and phrases with hyperlinks to my own website.

Does it work? I believe it does. And since I started tweeting and linking to relevent sites my rankings with the search engines have improved dramatically. So I have a few useful tips if you are going to tweet for business or in an attempt to point traffic to the direction of your website.

1 Create a Blog or news story with hyperlinks to your site and a relevent signature containing information relevent to your business.

2 Dont spam! Everyone hates (or dislikes immensely) spammers. If you do not have relevent information.. wait until you do.

3  Think about how your products and services help your customers or solve their problems

4 Mention your products and services (and some keywords and phrases)  in your tweets and links back to your blog stories or website.

5 Post often and post regularly both blogs then tweets to the same information.

6 Be enthusiastic its contagious!

I believe that Twitter is fantastic and effective tool to assist in growing your business online. The benefits you will see if you use it effectively are an increase in traffic to your website or blog and an increase in awareness of your brand. It is very well worth the effort in my opinion.

What your employee didn’t tell you was that they used their own email address to register the domain name and in a few years or so time when they have left the company and the domain name expires and you don’t know why… and your email is down for days and your site might also go down.. that £6 you saved will have cost you a lot more.

For the last 4 days one of our customers have had no email or website. They got some guy to register their company domain name years ago to be penny wise. They were like a lot of people pound foolish.

Yes…in these awful circumstances if you come to Glenovation we will do our best to help you but it is so frustrating to watch someone lose their domain name because they got an ex-employee to register the domain name.

The service is an annual service and requires renewal and constant management by your provider.

Some kinds of hosting include:

Basic Shared Hosting – (Suitable for Most Small Business Web sites)
Shared hosting is probably the most popular method for hosting a site.  Its low cost. What happens is that a provider puts many sites onto one server and helps spread the cost of that server by doing so.

Positives: Generally Good Value for Money

Premium Shared Hosting Service

Positives: Full use of the server and its resources and related services. Ability to add your own software to server.
Negatives: The only negative really is cost. This is the top level service and will always be customised specifically for your website and your business.

I had a call from a new customer yesterday. When finding out some information I heard the following when asking about Search Engine Optimisation on a website that already existed, “Google phoned me up and sold me advertising after seeing my ad on Gumtree!” – I cant explain the fear I felt when I asked how the lady had paid for this service. “Using my credit card over the phone!”

I explained that it was very unlikely that Google would phone up a small business trying to sell advertising. (This lady works from the kitchen of her home)

“Using my Credit Card” - YIKES! - I thought –  I asked “where did they say they heard about you?” “On Gumtree!”, I said “Do you really think that Google need to be scouring Gumtree looking for customers ?” of course the answer was no.

So I asked to see some of the “monthly reports” from this supplier…

Right there in front of me were the “last four months reports”… 4 A4 pages…each one exactly the same.. with a different date of course… £137 each!!

Then the bombshell… Oh and someone tried to buy £400 worth of computer hardware using my card details…. but the bank got there in time and knew it was a fraud…. :-S

All I can say is… Please please please do not give out your details to people pretending to be Google or anyone else no matter how convincing they sound.

“My email is not working correctly!” – Further investigation, in 98% of calls to our technical support service relating to emails, are actually caused by the customers broad band provider changing their settings on their router resulting in a limited email service. (IP Addresses can get changed, ports can get blocked and other functions are limited but internet browsing still occurs)

The solution is really easy. REBOOT YOUR BROADBAND ROUTER.

Rebooting your Broadband Router will reset the system and any changes made by your Broadband provider will automatically “flow through” to your service.

Before calling your email hosting company, try rebooting your router and you may find that in 98% of circumstances the service will be fully restored.
